Golfers glad to be back on fairways at Silverwood

The course was still playing heavy, and with only three holes closed the members got to enjoy playing a near full round of golf thanks to the hard work of the green’s staff in keeping the course in a good playable condition.

The winner this week was Francis Kelly with 35 points, With 17 points on his front eight holes, Francis had six pars on the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th 7th and 8th holes and only two bogeys at the 3rd and 9th holes.

He had a steady back seven of level par with seven straight pars for another 18 points to win on a count back.

In second place with an excellent round of golf was 1 handicapper Patrick Jordan who had a five under par round of golf.

Patrick had 19 points on his front eight holes with three birdies at the 5th, 8th and 9th holes and five pars

His back seven holes contained another two birdies at the 13th and 18th holes and another five pars for a bogey free round of golf. He is warming up nicely for the new summer season coming shortly.

In third place was Darren Ó’Hanlon again with another 35 points, he had 19 points on his front eight holes with one birdie at the 8th hole, two pars at the 2nd and 7th holes, one double bogey at the 3rd hole and four bogeys.

His back seven holes added another 16 points to his score with three pars at the 12th, 14th and 18th holes, one double bogey at the 13th hole and three bogeys.

It was a good day for the Jordan family with Mark Jordan, father of Patrick picking up the gross prize with a two over par round of golf.

Mark was level par after the first eight holes with one birdie at the 4th hole, one bogey at the 2nd hole and six pars.

Mark continued his good golf dropping only another two shots at the 10th and 15th holes with another five pars for a solid round of golf.

Fourth prize went to Gerry Canning once again with another 35 points.

He had five pars on his card, five double bogeys, and five bogeys for a mixed round of golf.

Fifth place went to Gary Ferguson with 34 points, he had one birdie at the 3rd hole, seven pars at the 2nd, 4th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes and one double bogey on his card.

The senior prize went to Finbar Headley with 32 points.

In last week’s competition the winners were: 1st place Paul Johnston 26 pts; 2nd place Liam Mackle 26pts; 3rd place Keith Totton 25 pts.

Members will be hoping conditions continue to improve for this weekend.
