Two players tied for first place with a net 61 (five under par) but it was Christopher Maguire playing off a 19 handicap who took the honours with the better back nine.

Chris played steady golf over the first few holes but a seven at the eighth hole set him back and he finished one over par at the turn.

The back nine was a different story with five pars and four single bogies he amassed a magnificent net 27 (six under par) to take the championship.

Runner-up and beaten on the count-back was last year’s winner of the Captains and Presidents Day prizes, Stephen Johnston (11). Stephen scored five pars in the front nine and his only blemish was the double bogie on the ninth.

Four pars and a birdie helped towards the net 31 for the back nine and second place. John McArdel (21) finished on a net 62 (4 under par) and took third spot on his own.

John’s impressive front nine included five pars to reach 4 under and only for the double bogie at the last, his back nine could well have taken the top prize. Best gross was won by Mike English with 73 gross.

Next week’s competition is four-ball better-ball and is a G.U.I. competition.
