Good start continues for Under 15 girls

Lurgan U15b 2 Dungannon 0

LURGAN Ladies U15 B team continued their good start to the season following last week's 8-0 win over local rivals Portadown, with a hard fought win over a very disciplined Dungannon team.

It was Dungannon who started the strongest, but a hard working midfield trio of Amy Donaldson, Suzie McCollum and Alana Doyle and some resolute defending from Natasha Caldwell, Naomi Fenton and Henrietta Graham meant Dungannon’s early pressure proved fruitless.

Lurgan now began to exert some pressure of their own and were awarded two short penalties which they unfortunately were unable to convert and the half finished scoreless.

The second half started with Lurgan out of the blocks the quickest; Kerrie Burns dispossessed a Dungannon defender and played in Kate Allen who slid the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 1-0. Within minutes Lurgan were two up with the same duo combining again, it was now all one way traffic but for some brave defending and excellent goalkeeping Lurgan could have been out of sight. However, against the run of play Dungannon were awarded a short penalty which was brilliantly saved by Lisa Harrison.

This seemed to spur the away team on, with the pressure mounting Lurgan made a double substitution bringing on Megan Hanlon and Leanne Halliday to shore up an already stalwart Lurgan team who played out the last five minutes to maintain their 100% start to the season.
