Gr-eight start for Olympic

Ballymoney Olympic 8 v 0 Limavady Rugby Club

BALLYMONEY Olympic began their league campaign with a home match against newcomers Limavady Rugby Club.

And it took only eight minutes for Olympic’s Andy Sheppard to burst through the visitor’s defence to score the opening goal.

Jimmy Thompson latched on to a through ball from Philip Michael and side-footed home to increase the lead.

Olympic were now well in control with their central midfield duo of Jonny Dickson and Michael controlling the play.

It was no surprise when five minutes before the break Thompson beat the offside trap to chip the keeper for the third goal.

Olympic took complete control in the second half with Dickson side-footing home from a pull back from the line from Andy Sheppard.

Sheppard added number five when he collected a Simon McKay throughball to score.

After very good inter-passing down the right flank between Peter Boyd and Robert Beckett, new signing Raymond McCann received the ball on the edge of the 18 and side-stepped two defenders before striking in a fierce left foot shot into the corner of the net.

Boyd then got in on the act, scoring with a cross-come-shot from wide on the right.

Ten minutes before the end Thompson completed a deserved hat-trick, notching home a Connor Neill cross.
