Grammar girls overcome Cookstown

LARNE Grammar's 1st XI hockey team took on Cookstown on Saturday and went ahead thanks to an early goal scored by Jenna Mulholland. They doubled their lead with a goal from captain Courtney Burns after a well-worked penalty corner.

Mullholland then grabbed her second and Larne's third of the game to give Larne a 3-0 lead. In the second half, Cookstown came back with two break-away goals but a strong Larne defence, along with some excellent saves from goalkeeper Tyler Dobbin, stopped Cookstown from netting an equaliser.

Meanwhile, the school's second XI bagged its first win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Cookstown. Zoe Buchanan opened the scoring before Tyler Dobbin added a second from a penalty corner. In the second half both teams had opportunities to score but and it was the visitors who clawed one back but it was too late for them to rescue anything from the game.
