Great escape for Whites?

LISBURN Distillery boss Tommy Wright has said keeping the Whites in the Premiership would give him the most satisfaction of his managerial career.

The Whites have turned a corner in recent weeks, going on a seven match unbeaten run to lift themselves off the foot of the table, climbing two points clear of near rivals Institute with a precious game in hand.

With just four matches remaining, including a trip to Glenavon tomorrow (Saturday), Wright admits it would be a special achievement for his side to defy the odds and hold on to their Premiership status.

"It will be a tremendous achievement if we can see it out," said Wright. "We know it is in our hands; three wins definitely keeps us up."

A 2-1 home win over Institute last Saturday saw Distillery lift themselves off the bottom of the table, much to the delight of Wright, who was appointed as manager last September at a time when the Whites had taken just one point from a possible 27.

"It was a good win against Institute, an important win that got us off the bottom of the table. We fully deserved all three points," Wright added.

"If we stay in the Premiership it will be the achievement that gives me the most satisfaction in my career; especially as everybody had written us off. I've done well at all the clubs I've been at, but this one would be special because of the circumstances."

The Whites' challenge for survival will continue tomorrow at Mourneview Park and Wright knows it is imperative his side remain focused until the end of the season.

"We just have to keep focused and keep doing what we've been doing, and if we do that we will be rewarded," he concluded.
