GREENISLAND Ladies came away from their Senior 1 league match against Omagh with a point on Saturday.

Greenisland began the game strongly with some fluent movement and good passing and were rewarded for their bright start with a series of penalty corners and were unlucky not to take the lead on several occasions. Despite their pressure the half time score was 0-0.

Both teams upped their game in the second half which made for a fast and frantic pace to the match. After a good passing movement between Erin McMaw and Cheryl McCracken drew the goalkeeper out of position, a shot on goal lead to a penalty flick being awarded when the ball struck an Omagh foot on the line.Player of the match Jenny Henry stepped up for Greenisland and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper.

Heartened by going 1-0 up Greenisland set about doubling their lead which they did after three minutes. Henry picked up the ball on the left side of midfield and sent a powerful diagonal ball into the circle which was expertly turned into the roof of the net by McMaw.

Omagh pressed hard and after a succession of penalty corners and managed to pull a goal back. In the final minutes of the game Omagh were awarded a contentious penalty flick which they scored to level the match. The game finished 2-2 leaving Greenisland with a hard-earned point away from home.
