Greer and Farson home first across shield play

Philip Greer and Tom Farson finished top of the second week around Tandragee across the Johnston Shield.

The Ulster Carpets-sponsored competition featured Greer and Farson on 31 points.

However, the tally came out on top only thanks to the countback, as 17 points across the back six helped seal success over Geoff Gray and Ashley McConville.

Andy Burns and Greg Bannerman were next in line on 30 points.

Adrian Maney and Mark Bannerman hold the overall advantage on the qualifying leaderboard with 60 points.

Alan Hewitt and Colin McMullen sit second over the pairings of Simon Muldrew and Norman McGladdery plus Greg Bannerman and Andy Burns.

John Weir and Robert Megarity share fifth with Geoff Gray and Ashley McConville on 56 points apiece.

Colin McKillop and Philip Irwin stand as one of four partnerships on 55 points alongside Jim Carson and Richard Hylands, Graham Harvey and Gary Calvert and, finally, Gerard Guy and Jim Campbell.

Four pairings stand on 54 points - Stuart Paul and John Haffey, Paul Topley and Johnny Quinn, Aaron Hall and Eamon Magee and Trevor Lovell and Kenny Nixon.

PORTADOWN

Play in the Clubworld Travel New Year Trophy has been postponed for another week following continued weather issues.

The format will now run over five weeks rather than six, with four players to push forward from the qualifying period as handicap section leaders into the matchplay stages.

Late entries and Saturday starting times can be confirmed in The Pro Shop.

In the Monday Seniors, Liam Tennyson won the 10-hole Stableford on 24.5 points.

The winner of the low section was David Brisbane on 20 points, with John Moylan top of the high section thanks to 19.5.

Ronnie Weir scored 20 points to top the veterans’ standings.
