Gregg looking forward to North West Cup Final

JOHN Gregg says he is looking forward to a return to the Showgrounds tonight (Tuesday) for the North West Cup final.

Institute were relegated to the Championship last season, and the Coleraine man told Times Sport that his side to face Coleraine tonight will be ‘much changed’ from his team of last season.

“I am really looking forward to the game, there is no pressure on us.

“I have a very young team, a very much changed team from the team that played in the Premiership last season.

“Rory McClean and Ryan Semple are the only players that would have played against Coleraine last season.

“I’ve added a lot of young Derry boys to the squad, and to be honest things have been going okay for us.”

John says that ‘Stute have changed direction and are looking to develop players rather than having to pay ‘big money’ to attract talent to Drumahoe.

“Our team at the minute consists of a little bit of experience mixed with youth.

“We don’t have the big money to splash about that the Premier teams have, that’s why we have to go a different way with things.

“My budget for players isn’t a lot, but I think that if we continue searching out young players from around the city we will create a few players, a few little stars, that we as a club can be proud of.”

So what is John expecting from Tuesday night? “Institute-Coleraine games are always good games, any fan will tell you that.

“I think in the League last year we drew twice with Coleraine.

“They are always good footballing encounters and I wouldn’t expect anything else on Tuesday night.”

John has had three months in the Championship League and he’s full of praise for the other teams in his league: “The Championship is a good league. Every team is capable of beating each other. I know a lot of people give it a bum steer but it’s a good league and it gives us a chance to develop our young players.”
