Gregg wary of Lurgan Blues

INSTITUTE manager John Gregg can't wait for this weekend's JJB Sports Irish Cup sixth round tie at Glenavon, because he doesn't have to worry about the league.

Gregg, whose side currently sit seven points ahead of bottom club Lisburn Distillery, still admits his players need to do a lot more if they want to get anything at his old club this weekend.

"Marty Quinn has a very good record in the Irish Cup and I was reading an article about how many cup finals him and Rory Hamill have been in whenever they have been working together, so they probably think they are in the next round already," he said.

"But although it's a cup tie it's still like any other game where you need to prepare properly and whatever side wants it most on the day will more than likely win it.

"I felt we were a wee bit suspect defensively lately, but we know we have to work on that," he said.

"Because of that by no means we have climbed a mountain and we aren't the finished article and there's a lot more hard work to do starting at Mourneview Park, on Saturday.

"The games are coming thick and fast and we know ourselves that we are in a dug-out in as regards the league: we need to get wins and points on the board, nothing fancy, just points on the board, so this weekend's game at Glenavon means we don't have to worry about that. The players can go out and express themselves, I keep telling them to go out and enjoy their football, let me worry about everything else, just go out and enjoy your football, because whenever you enjoy your football you normally get results."

The Waterside men welcome back centre-back Paddy McLaughlin after he missed last night's (Tuesday) league encounter with Dungannon Swifts because of suspension.

Also prior to last evening's match with Dungannon, trio Sean Friars, Kevin Ramsey and Declan Divin were doubtful for the trip to the Lurgan Blues.
