Hallowe’en spooktacular at East Coast Monster Dash

The events, which proved extremely popular, took place under moonlight and attracted hundreds of runners from all over the province.

There were impressive runs throughout the field but it was siblings Kelly and Charlie Patterson who led the Monster Mile competitors home.

In the Monster Dash 5k, runners negotiated the spook paths, and it was Murray Deller (East Coast) who claimed top honours in 22:10 (1st). David Allan followed in 24:15, before Andrew McIntyre (Orangegrove AC) completed the top three in 24:21 (3rd).

Allyson O’Toole (East Coast AC) took victory in the ladies’ 5k, clocking 24:48, securing fourth overall.

At Saturday’s Larne parkrun, Brian Maltman led the East Coast AC athletes home in a new personal best time of 22:54 (14th) .

Paul Clements, a regular at the event was next home for the club 15th place (23:22).

Young Hannah Clements (under-10 category) produced another top performance, finishing as fifth lady overall, with a time of 27:06. Sandy Plumb, another regular, but this time participating in costume, was the familiar face into the Drains Bay finish area in 27:49 (31st place). Jacque Craig (11th lady) and Mark Dean (44th) finished only seconds apart in 30:36 and 30:39 respectively, before the impressive Sally McKeown secured a new PB of 31:29 (13th lady).

The youthful Eva Craig again ran well, narrowly missing her PB by eight seconds with a time of 31:30 -this meant Eva finished as 14th placed lady.

On Sunday (November 2), the multi-talented Lee Stirling took part in the Ballymoney Cycling Club Autumn Duathlon.

The event comprised of a two-mile run, 10-mile cycle, followed by another two-mile run. In blustery but bright conditions, Lee ran well and cycled to his usual high standard, taking 26th place in a strong field of participants, with a time of 58:25.

On the same day, three club members ran the Decathlon 10k event in Belfast.

Top triathlete Dan Spencer left his bike behind and raced around the roads to finish in 38:59 to claim 20th place.

Allyson O’Toole narrowly missed out on a podium spot with a time of 41:04 (4th female), while Chris Davis took 65th place with a time of 44:55.
