Hamilton makes impressive debut

GARY Hamilton made his Glenavon debut on Saturday and put in a solid performance but as gaffer Marty Quinn tells, the striker wasn't wholly satisfied with his display.

“I thought he did very well but he was quite disappointed with himself,” said Quinn.

“He’s set high standards. He has done that all through his career and he felt it wasn’t good enough on Saturday.

“He got on the ball quite a lot and he was always looking the ball so that’s the sign of a good player.

“He had a good week and came through the practice game against Tandragee before training again on Thursday night. He was keen to get back up and running again and, taking Gary Heasley’s advice he decided to go for it and I thought he did very well.

“He came over to the line about 10 minutes into the second half and I said that another 10 would probably do him but he said he was ok. He has shown good commitment.

“I think a free role is probably Gary’s best position but we’ll take it match by match really. We’ll see what the opposition are like and see where we can get at them most.”

And as well as Quinn’s contentment at the forward’s performance, the fans were equally as impressed as one fan told the ‘MAIL.’

“I was excited to see the inclusion of Gary Hamilton in the starting eleven, although I was a little worried that he was rushed back to early. Luckily, he looked fit, sharp and up for the game.

“He opened up a lot of plays and showed signs of the class we really need. I really am excited to see him in a Glenavon shirt and hopefully with a full squad back soon, we could start getting some good results on the board.”
