Hamilton nets qualifying time for London

Larne Swimming Club’s James Hamilton (pictured) had a great end to his first European Championships campaign netting a qualifying time for the London Paralympic Games in 2012.

The 18-year-old finished seventh in the 100m breaststroke final in the S14 category, in a time of 1.17.09 after recording 1.16.16 in the heats.

Representing the Irish Paralympics team in Berlin, James’s breaststroke time was the third occasion this season he has achieved the qualifying time set by the International Paralympic Committee for the 2012 games. It will form part of the consideration criteria for next year’s Irish team.

James also competed in the 200m freestyle, just missing out on the final, finishing 12th. He also competed in the 100m backcrawl, finishing 11th.
