Hanna gets hands on Maxwell Shield

On Tuesday night, the West Down Wheelers held their final 10 mile time trial of the season on the newly surfaced Castlewellan Road, turning at McCoy’s garage before Katesbridge.

This annual ‘no TT gear’ event was for the Maxwell Shield meaning the 19 participants were all on road race bikes with no aero advantages being allowed.

It was to be Brian Hanna’s night who has had a great first full season with the club recording a superb 24’37. With the handicap times over the scratch riders being applied, this was enough to lift the shield by an impressive minute and six seconds.
