Hard work is playing off for winner Brenda

The funds from the ladies Tuesday competition will go to the Mary Peters Trust an organisation which makes a great contribution to sport in Northern Ireland.

The prize was kindly sponsored by Orla O’Dowd and the winner with a fantastic score of 40 points was Brenda Gallery. Brenda is a relatively new golfer but has worked hard at her game and it’s great to see her hard work bearing fruit.

Brenda’s highlight was a two at the 8th and the biggest reward will be that she has taken two shots off her handicap.

All the young guns were out competing for the gross this week and Niamh McSherry held off the other contenders with 34 gross points. Niamh had three birdies but undid her good work in the middle of the back nine, with a few bogeys, on a stretch of holes which seemed to be the downfall of a few cards this week but a worthy card to lift the best score of the day award.

Section one was won by another young gun, Orla O’Dowd. Orla had 39 points and enjoyed a fine run, after a poor start, which saw her play the last 11 holes in level par.

Orla is currently involved in three teams so it’s great to see her playing so well and supporting the Tuesday competitions especially at this busy time of year.

Section two went to one of our more steady golfers Eileen McCann with 34 points. Eileen features regularly in the prizes and looked to be heading for an even better score before a few blips on the back nine but she regained her composure and kept her score together to secure her prize. 34 points was also the winning score in section three with Claire White taking the honours in this section. Claire has been in the top ten on her last three outings so again Claire is enjoying good consistent golf at the minute.

There were three twos this week, Brenda Gallery, Orla O’Dowd and Sian Mulholland. The nine hole winner was Josie McAnarney with 19 points.
