Harper is 2014 Mini Max NI Champion once again

It was a very successful weekend both Daniel Conlon and Annahilt’s Daniel Harper on the North Coast as both drivers took advantage of the good conditions to take home a collection of wins in their respective classes to claim their first Championship titles of the 2014 season.

In the Senior Max class Conlon went four wins from four throughout the day and was having it all his own way in the first three races. However Derek Wilson took the battle to the Dollingstown driver and led until the last lap of the final race of the day when Conlon took advantage of a gap and pulled off a great move up the inside to take the lead with just a few corners to go.

Despite some controversy over the move, Conlon was reinstated as the winner which meant he completed the clean sweep on the day. The win meant Conlon claimed the 2014 CDMC Championship.

In the Mini Max class Harper didn’t have it all his own way with Glenavy’s Jack McGaughey putting in a solid performance on the day which meant it wasn’t just as easy for Harper with him and McGaughey taking home two wins a piece from the four races. However consistent finishes from young Harper meant that he had accumulated enough points to claim the 2014 NI Championship for the second season running.

In the ever competitive Cadet Libra class it was a close contest between Sé Óg Martin and Tom Edgar for the bragging rights come the end of the day, but it was Martin who edged it ahead of his competitor, winning three from five races, including the Memorial Race at the end of the day which was the feature race of the day in the class. Philip Patton also had a solid day claiming four podiums from five races, which included a second place finish in race one, and three third place finishes in the remainder of the races before the Memorial Race, in which he finished in fourth.

Paul Prentice put in a dominant performance in what was a depleted grid in the World Formula class with just three drivers lining up to compete at the North Coast track. Prentice won all four races on the day.

The next race meeting is the Round 6 of the Ulster Championship and it’s back to Nutts Corner Race Circuit on Saturday September 20 for what will no doubt be a fantastic days racing as the fight for the Championships heat up with the rounds counting down.
