Harriers’ Murray is Super Mario at marathon race

It was another busy week in the racing calendar for County Antrim Harriers.

Saturday (May 9) saw Christine Murray complete the third of her 23-marathon challenge. This one was close to home and close to her heart. She took the opportunity to support Cameron’s PANDA run, raising money to fund treatment for local boy Cameron Lindsay, who has a brain condition known as PANDAS.

Fancy dress was a must for this race, with Cameron requesting Superheroes and Disney characters. Christine obliged, dressing up as Super Mario and completed the marathon distance. Ally Bennett completed the 10k distance.

Meanwhile, there was gutsy performances by Lisa Montgomery (56.40) and Carol Annesley (58.18) at the challenging Slieve Gullion 10k.

The May Day Bank Holiday was marathon debut day for Jayne McKeever and Rachel Lloyd who took on the Belfast City Marathon, recording impressive times of 3:53.57 and 4:08.09.

Ross McCowan also ran the marathon, with a great run, finishing in 3:47.58. The ladies’ relay team of Irene Downey, Natasha Henderson, Sarah Kinnear, Jane Kinnear and Jennifer Hardie put in a strong performance, completing the course in 3:39.39.
