Harriers out in force at An Creagan

Sperrin Harriers were out in force last Wednesday evening at An Creagan 5k Mid Summer Run, which kicked off the 20th anniversary celebrations at the centre.

Almost 30 members of the club attended the well organised event ran in beautiful, if warm, weather conditions.

Among those securing sub-20 minute times were: Paul Conway (17.39), Sean O’Gara (17.55), Vincent McAllister (18.00), Marty McDermott (18.33), Paul McLaughlin (18.42), Mark Reid (18.44), Brian Bradley (19.33) and Fergal McElroy (19.52).

In the ladies sub-25 minute times were posted by Natalie Hall (20.46) who was third lady, Laura Mitchell (24.16), Claire Rogers (24.19) and Nicola Gillespie (24.35).

Many other Sperrin Harriers put in great efforts around the course also with the following times Martin Foster (20:30), David Moan (20:43), Dean Corey (20:46), Toirleach Gourley (21:30), Tommy Harraghy (21:48), Barry O’Neill (21:49), Arthur Carson (21:50), Patsy Hughes (22:06), Anthony O’Neill (22:41), Louise Kelly (25:05), Fiona Devlin (26:00), Ciara Coyle (26:37), Maureen Mallon (28:12), Breige McCann (34:38).

As always there was great hospitality afterwards and everyone enjoyed the evening.

Lisburn 10k- Almost 1700 runners took part in the 10K race last Wednesday evening in warm, humid conditions. Sperrin Harriers’ Malcolm Burnside finished on 45.05 with Bronagh McKenna completing in over an hour.

Junior European Triathlon- special congratulations goes to Gavin Corey who was representing Ireland at the Junior European triathlon in Kitzbuhel, Austria last Friday and claimed 5th place.

BST Extreme- Well done to Sperrin Harriers Fiona Devlin, Nicola Gillespie, Natalie Hall and Hannah Su who completed this gruelling 10K course in Pomeroy Forest last Saturday.

Kenny McGirr Memorial 10k- In testing warm and humid conditions last Sunday Youth Sport Omagh played host to this inaugural 10K event which closely followed the first part of the town’s half marathon course.

The first Harrier home was Eirin McDaid in a time of 37.08. Next was Paul McLaughlin who was second in the M45 category on a time of 39.18 edging in ahead of Adrian Devlin on 39.22 and Marty McDermott on 39.28.

Pauline McGurren who took second lady finished on 40.40 with Toirleach Gourley the next Harrier in on 44.43, closely followed by Fergal McElroy on 44.53.

Mickey Mullan crossed the line on 54.17 and Fiona Devlin having completed BST Extreme in Pomeroy the day before, finished on 54.44, with Sarah Hughes hot on her heels on 54.45. Maureen Mallon also finished comfortably to complete the club contingency.

Between The Bridges 5K- last Sunday several hundred athletes took over the Westlink in Belfast for the running of this out and back course along one of Northern Ireland’s busiest roads.

Laura and Eamonn Cushnahan represented Sperrin Harriers finishing with respectable times of 33.14 and 21.59 respectively.

Week Ahead: Runher 5M, Larne on Wednesday 25th June at 7.30pm; Jude Gallagher Round The Bridges Memorial 10M, Limavady on Thursday 26th June at 7.30pm; Ards Half Marathon on Friday 27th June at 6.30pm; Tullysaran 10K & 5K on Saturday 28th June at 12 Noon; Dromore 10K & 5K on Saturday 28th June at 2pm.

Stanley Reid Memorial 5M- Sperrin Harriers are proud to announce the running of its annual Cookstown 5 mile classic sponsored by Kirsten Limited on Friday 1st August 2014 at 7.30pm.

This year the race has been re-named in memory of Stanley Reid, founder of the race and original chairman of Cookstown Harriers, the club which reformed to become Sperrin Harriers.

Training continues as usual at 6.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Loughry and anyone wishing to train on Sunday morning can contact Sean Donnelly on 07518983646.
