Harryville continue rich vein of form

IF there’s one team who will be sorry to see the Christmas break in the Ballymena & District Indoor Bowling League, it’s Harryville Community Centre.

The Wakehurst side have hit top gear as the halfway point approaches.

They followed up a five-point haul last week against Maine by ending Moneyglass’s unbeaten start to the Division Two campaign in some style.

Harryville were convincing 29-shot winners as they scooped four more points which has taken them firmly into the promotion reckoning in the new year.

‘MG’s only rink win came from Kieran Teague who had a five shot win from Harold Smyth, but Harryville were firmly in control at the break after Wilson Burgess’ foursome stormed to a 26-3 win over Brendan McCusker.

Harryville never looked back after that, winning both second half matches with the rinks skipped by Stewart Wilson and Joe Patterson inflicting defeats on Brendan Marron and Sean McNeilly respectively.

Elsewhere, Golf Seniors and Portglenone Community Centre shared the points in their meeting at Raceview.

The opening half saw the visitors take one-and-a-half points and a shots lead of six which came from Jim Gaul’s rink of W Crawford, A Shaw and K Adams, who defeated Ivan McMaster’s rink by 13 shots to seven, after lifting three shots on the last end.

On the adjacent mat, the home rink in the hands of Sammy Small were up against it right from the start after falling six shots behind after four ends against Gerry McLarnon.

The home side won three of the next five ends to reduce the arrears to four shots going into the last end and they notched four shots to finish all square at nine apiece.

After the break, the visiting unit in charge of B Cassley won five ends, scoring nine shots against John Nichols who, although also winning five ends, could only score singles on each of those ends.

All Saints inflicted a seventh straight league defeat on Maine who are now cut adrift at the foot of the table.

The Randalstown side were actually 11 shots ahead at the break, with the points shared.

Eugene Walsh had a two shot win for Saints against Pat Kerr but Maine replied with a 13-shot victory for John Heffron.
