Hat-trick for Steph amid seven heaven

Lisnagarvey Ladies Seconds thrashed newly promoted Banbridge 7-0 at Comber Road on Saturday to go top of the table.

Steph McCullough was particularly on form, netting a hat-trick amid the rout.

Garvey started well keeping Bann pinned in their own half with the Bann keeper pulling off some great saves to keep the score nil each.

The Blues first goal came from good tackling back by Tanya Surgeon who then started a flowing Garvey move that ended with Laura Topley sweeping the ball into the Bann goal.

A second quickly followed with a good strike from a corner by Jenna Flynn making it 2-0. Steph McCullogh made it 3-0 after great work from Louise McCrackin, who throughout the match controlled and dominated the centre of midfield for Garvey.

Steph added a fourth, leaving Bann with no answer to the Blues’ display of free flowing one touch hockey.

Laura Topley scored her second and Garvey’s fifth after a skilful individual run, taking the ball along the base line and slipping it past the keeper to the far post.

Skipper Laura Wilson scored with a great dipping strike from the edge of the circle making it six for Lisnagarvey.

Steph McCullough secured her hat-trick with a very composed finish, rounding the keeper and tapping in from close range.

At the other end of the pitch, the Garvey defence dealt with any danger that Banbridge threw at them with Zara Kirkwood at centre back having an outstanding game.

The result puts Lisnagarvey joint top of Junior One after four matches.
