Hat-trick for Wilson as two South teams in seventh heaven

A hat-trick from Neil Wilson, two from Mark Conn and strikes from Cyril Varghese and Nathan Gamble earned the result that keeps South in sixth in Junior One, seven points behind Bangor.

It marks a stark reverse of the 5-0 loss South suffered to the same team two months ago.

It was Mark Conn who opened the scoring for South with a lobbed reverse. Soon after, a slick short corner routine was stopped on the line by a Bangor foot and up stepped Neil Wilson to calmly slot home the penalty stroke to double the lead.

South didn’t ease up and right on the stroke of half time won a short corner as Conn found a Bangor foot in the circle. The resulting corner was empathically put away by Nathan Gamble.

Bangor got their only goal at the start of the second half through a short corner but South put the game to bed with two more to make it 5-1.

The first was a thumping reverse from Cyril Varghese and the second yet another cool finish from Neil Wilson who found himself in acres of space at the top of the circle.

South continued to push for yet more goals and eventually found a sixth when Conn slammed home a rebound from yet another South short corner. Six became seven when Conn found Wilson who was again in acres of room and completed his hat-trick with a well-struck reverse.

South Fifths put six points between them and the bottom tow with a vital 7-1 win over second bottomAntrim Thirds on Saturday.

South started strong as opened the scoring McElhinney passed across the face of the goal for a Donald tap in. With south continuing to dominate, a change in short corner routine saw a Deane drag-flick beat the Antrim keeper high into the roof of the net.

McElhinney then made it three before half-time and it was four shortly after the restart. Faulkner broke free and a one two round the keeper left him with a tap in.

Two minutes later Donald got his second when Bell broke down the right and fired a cross in for Donald to control and slip past the keeper.

McElhinney got his second from a reverse to make it six. After Antrim got a consolation, Deane completed a prace of his own from another short corner to complete an astounding victory.
