Hazelbank are the champions!

HAZELBANK FC are this year's Hutchinson Tiles League champions.

They could only draw on Tuesday night at home to Finn McCools but their status as league winners was confirmed on Thursday night after Berthas FC’s surprise loss to Macosquin Village.

This was the Coleraine team’s first League title.

Well done to manager Garth Hutchinson and his men.

The race for second place is still on.

Balnamore and Berthas are on the same points with one game to go each but with Berthas having done the double over Balnamore this season, they would take second place on head to head record.

The league season is almost at an end with only a handful of fixtures left. See below for details.

This season’s Hutchinson Tiles Cup final will be played at the Coleraine Showgrounds between champions Hazelbank FC and Berthas FC.

Brook Street 1 Hazelbank FC 5

Having ready secured the league Hazelbank went about their business in the same way they have done all season.

James diver went close on five minutes meeting McClarty’s cross heading what should have been the opener.

Brook Street’s keeper McKissock pulled of a brilliant one handed save with the resulting corner also well gathered by the keeper. Hazelbank continued to press, Wilson and Sheppard being involved on both flanks.

The opening goal came on nine minutes, Ricky King getting to the line and squaring back for the unmarked McClarty to smash home. James diver doubled the lead a minute later with Sheppard the provider whipping in an excellent cross which diver converted leaving McKissock stranded as his defenders all got caught out with cross.

Brook Street began to get moving with Caldwell and McDonald being there busiest players. McDonald sent in a well taken free kick where Steven Crawford got done well to keep it out with a full stretched save.

McKissock was certainly the busier of the two keepers, first keeping out king and then Wilson.

Ciaran Wilson finally broke his resistance on 38 minutes, a little bit of luck with the bounce as Duffy tried to get in the tackle, Wilson with a well hit shot into the bottom left hand side, 3-0 at the break.

The second half started off well for Brook Street, again Caldwell involved in all of their play.

Marty McCrory scored the goal of the game, turning back the years from when he was a striker.

Having seen off a Brook Street corner, Marty played the ball to Sheppard in his own box and continued with his run.

Sheppard then played him through on the half way line, Brook Street stepped up but Marty beat the offside, collected the pass and beat McKissock with a left footed shot under pressure from Kennedy.

Colin McClarty made it five for Hazelbank, his turn and volley from at least 30 yards was too much for the keeper to even make an attempt to save it.

Craig Caldwell got a consolation for Brook Street on 82 minutes, turning up unmarked at the back post to head in from Duffy’s cross. Man of the Match: Mark Boorman (Hazelbank)

West Bann Athletic 1 Balnamore 4

A very entertaining game was played down in Ballysally and Balnamore came away with the three points.

The visitors opened the scoring when Blair found Madison in midfield and his pass released Armstrong who found Aidy McLaughlin unmarked at the back post and he fired into the roof of the net.

West Bann pressed for an equaliser and got it through a James Elder own goal.

The second half was all Balnamore as they started to string the passes together and created a host of chances.

Simon Armstrong put Balnamore 2 - 1 up when he latched onto McLaughlin’s through ball and smashed home an unstoppable volley into the roof of the net. Then the game was made safe when Armstrong turned provider for Sean Hogg who slotted home coolly into the bottom corner.

The fourth goal came when Nicky Tweed dribbled his way to the by line and lifted a great ball into the box and there was ace marksman Simon Armstrong to nod home a simple goal and complete the scoring. Man Of The Match: Simon Armstrong (Balnamore)

Riverside Athletic 3 The Villagers 1

Riverside began well pushing the visitors deep into their own half and as chances came and went it looked only a matter of time before they opened the scoring.

When the goal came it had luck written all over it. A ball into the box by Simon McLean came off the visiting keeper and as Cooper stuck out a leg the ball hit the unfortunate Gary Friel and ended up in the net.

The Villagers responded by committing more men forward, a tactic that brought reward on the half hour when a ball through the middle released Robert Bradley to finish past Mackey in the home goal. Shortly after Riverside regained the lead from what looked like another own goal. This time Kernoghan's ball into the box came off the unfortunate Phillip Vauls as McGoldrick applied pressure.

The second half was more or less the same as the first, both teams having a real go at each other.

The game turned on its head in a five minute period with Riverside extending their lead when it could easily have been all-square.

A swift Villagers attack found Bradley on the edge of the area and he turned Blair but watched Mackey superbly save his shot, which looked headed for the top corner.

The home side went straight up the other end, resulting in the visitors giving away a needless free kick on the edge of their area which saw McGoldrick head home Leighton’s dead ball to ensure the points stayed in the Toon. Man of the Match: Gareth Leighton (Riverside Athletic)

FC Macosquin 1 Macosquin Village 4

This local derby started with Macosquin Village on the front foot, putting the FC defence under a lot of pressure in the first few minutes. This early pressure paid off for MVFC as they took the lead after only three minutes through Gavin Johnston, who powered a header past Briggs in the FC goal from Laverty’s corner.

FC equalised five minutes before half time, when McClelland flicked on a long ball from the back for McGahon to run through and slot the ball into the bottom corner.

The Village dominance in midfield paid off on the hour mark, with Stewart holding the ball up well on the wing before crossing for McIntyre to loop a great header over Briggs into the top corner of the net from an almost impossible angle.

The goal gave MVFC the lift they needed to see out the game comfortably, as they finished the game the stronger with Stewart again supplying a great ball for Chris Wade to beat the offside trap and finish well to make in 3-1 to the Village men with three minutes to go. A minute later Macosquin Village increased their lead to 4-1 when Stevie Campbell capped off a man of the match performance by evading the challenges of four FC Macosquin players to curl the ball past the oncoming Briggs. This was another good performance by the Village team, making it three wins in a week and finishing the season on a high note. Man of the Match: Stevie Campbell (Macosquin Village)

Mountview FC 1 Hillview FC 1

Before this match both teams had the same points on the table but Mountview had a game extra to play.

Mountview had a depleted squad due to injuries, so Hillview would have been slight favourites at kick off. Both teams started well creating chances at both ends.

Mountview took the lead after 10 minutes, McElhinney put Frazer under pressure at the back making the former concede a corner. Smyth whipped in the corner and Caldwell placed his header firmly into the top corner from the near post, McVey having no chance in the Hillview goal. Five minutes before half time Hillview equalised, McGowan beating the offside trap, squared the ball to Noodles McDowell who slotted the ball past McClarty and into the corner of the goal. The remainder of the match was pretty even, with both sides creating numerous chances to seal the win, but none where taken and the match ended a draw.

Somerset drew level with Gary McKnight hammered home from close range.

Dunaghy restored their lead when Murray grabbed his second. Mark Platt made the points safe for Dunaghy near the end of the game capping off a fine move from back to front. Man of the Match: Neil Keers (Dunaghy Old Boys)
