Healthy boost for Joey Centre

AFTER approximately a £330,000 face lift covered by Council insurance, the Health Suite at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre is now up and running.

Back in January, the Garryduff Road facility fell victim to a fire which started in the sauna cabin and destroyed many aspects of the Health Suite area including the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi.

However thanks to around the clock work from Ballymoney Borough Council, Leisure Centre staff and contractor JS Dunlop, the leisure suite is welcoming back both old and new members.

During the opening last Wednesday, Head of Leisure Services Paul Lyness explained: “On January 18 we unfortunately had an electrical fault which resulted a fire in our sauna. As a result the Health Suite was damaged and we had to close down the facility. However only seven months on and we are now back in business with a fabulous newly refurbished state-of-the-art suite.

“The Health Suite now boasts a new sauna with starysky lighting, an ice fountain feature which creates ice crystals, and cold drench shower. There’s also a new tiled aroma-essence room featuring crystal mood lighting and starysky experience as well as an experience shower offering warm tropical rain, Caribbean storm and Arctic rain.

“The four water heated loungers in our new relaxation area plus additional tiled seating, is the perfect place to unwind before jumping in the eight person’s jacuzzi.

“It is hard to believe all this is under one roof and really needs to be seen to be believed.”

The centre has also replaced the Cardio equipment with the latest Fusion range providing new SmartCentre technology complete with two high tech terminals and replaced all the upholstery on the strength equipment.

The new equipment package worth £145,000, and at no cost to Council, has been introduced thanks to a partnership with Pulse.

Opening hours are 9.30am to 10pm Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.30pm on Saturday and 1.30pm to 5.30pm on Sunday.
