Keen to continue their winning ways after beating Carrick the previous week, Greenisland got off to a strong start with the forward line of Ashleigh Bell, Dawn Montgomery and Erin McMaw attacking the Ballyclare circle.

It wasn’t long before Greenisland were on the score sheet, when an incisive pass from Judith Sweeney found Montgomery, who spread the ball across the circle for McMaw to apply the finish.

Not to be outdone, Bell then found the back of the net to double Greenisland’s lead.

Soon after Jenny Henry (inset) got Greenisland’s third after she took a quick free and a gave herself the opportunity for a straight strike from the top of the circle.

Ballyclare then started to come into the match, but the defence of Chloe Carlin, Claire Mayne and Emma Curtis, made some timely tackles to ensure that goalkeeper Leah Crooks had just one clearance to make.

Greenisland soon began to dominate again as great passing play from Gemma Beattie, Ruth Creaney and Henry gave forwards Lucy Carlin and Montgomery scoring opportunities which they were unlucky not to convert.

Greenisland did win a short corner, which was converted by a superb strike from Judith Sweeney.

Greenisland continued to pressure Ballyclare until the end of the half and were rewarded when Bell found the back of the net for a second time after neat passing play between herself and Henry, meaning that at half-time Greenisland were leading 5-0.

After the interval, Greenisland returned to the pitch keen to dominate again and it wasn’t long before they won another short corner.

This was to be the last play of the game however, as in defending the penalty corner, the ball struck one of the Ballyclare defender’s arms and with injury both teams agreed to end the match there.
