High fives for free-scoring Coleraine Academy u-14's

COLERAINE Academy Under-14's opened their Mid Ulster League campaign with an excellent 5-2 win over Donegal Celtic at the Crescent on Saturday.

Donegal Celtic started the game on top and dominated the opening ten minutes but couldn't break down a stubborn Coleraine defence. Coleraine then stepped up a gear and started playing some neat football. They took the lead on seventeen minutes when Christie Moore delivered an inch perfect cross from the right for Jack Gray to head past the advancing keeper and into the net.

Coleraine’s second came on twenty minutes, again the ball came in from the right to Callum McNeill who timed his run to perfection and smashed the ball into the back of the net, giving the Celtic keeper no chance.

With two minutes of the half remaining, Coleraine's defence failed to clear the ball and a Celtic player shot from 25 yards out and found the corner of the net.

Coleraine started the second half on top and added a third goal with only five minutes played. Oliver Ferris collected the ball in the middle of the field, rounded two defenders and thumped the ball into the net.

The Bannsiders were now dominating the game and hemming Celtic in their own half, however it was Celtic who scored next.

A long ball from deep caught Coleraine's defence out and a Celtic forward chipped the ball over the advancing Gawne into the net.
