Hillsborough Social lost by just one shot away to St Paul’s in Section A of the Roy Kennedy Fuels Indoor Bowling League.

However, they only managed three points, leaving the runners-up spot in the balance as they meet the other team involved, Killaney, in the final match.

Ken Burns was the St Paul’s hero with an 11 shots win, but Hillsborough did get six points against Derriaghy a week earlier and this point could be enough to save Derriaghy with Pond Park and Annahilt Parish appearing likely to be relegated.

Eglantine have won Section B of the Roy Kennedy Fuels Indoor Bowling League after taking six points off St Clare’s when winning by 17 shots.

The result probably sends St Clare’s down, but if there are three relegation places then St Matthew’s Broomhedge. Lambeg Parish and Rock are still in the mix.

St Joseph’s came away from Sloan Street with five points in a two shots win.

A three and a four helped Con Mulholland to a 13-2 lead at the seventh, though Ken Armstrong finished with two, four to pull back to five shots down.

Level 3-3 at the fourth, Thelma Irwin was 8-3 ahead at the seventh and, after Hugh Lundy lifted a five, Sloan Street finished off with the winning single.

A three helped Alan Laughlin to an 8-1 lead at the sixth and 9-3 with an end left when Stevie Mulholland lifted a single.

At the fourth Stephen Irwin was 6-0 ahead but Damien Magennis finished with a five and four singles to win by three shots.
