Dromore Fifths 1

Newcastle Seconds 1

DROMORE Fifths were looking forward to playing at home on the newly resurfaced pitch.

Last time the Fifths played Newcastle the two sides were held 1-1 so the hosts were determined to win, especially since they were on home ground.

The team started putting on the pressure right away with the midfield passing great balls forward to the forwards who put their defence under pressure.

Dromore were rewarded when Linda Cummins skilfully dodged several of her opponents and at the top of the circle pushed a perfectedly placed ball onto the end of Andrea Wilson’s stick who took the shot into the back of the net.

Dromore felt the pressure was off and started to relax too early to their cost as Newcastle broke through the defence and scored unfortunately.

At half time the score was 1-1. After a half time talk from coach Jonathan McDonagh the locals were racing to go.

The defence of Lynette Coggan, Beth Maguire, Nicola Annett and Andrea Wilson kept Newcastle out of the circle and the midfield of Olivia Pierce, Linda Cummins and Jessica Davison work tirelessly to move the ball up into the circle.

Dromore were rewarded with several penalty corners but unfortunately no goals, so the final result was a 1-1 draw.

Dame of the game goes to Linda Cummins who worked tirelessly to feed the ball to our forwards.

Thanks to Amber Mulholland for her great umpiring skills.
