HOCKEY: Carrick bounce back against Lurgan

A CONCENTRATED week’s work with coaches Neil McConnell and Gary McIlroy reaped dividends for Carrick Ladies 1st XI as the team bounced back strongly from defeat to Ballyclare to blast their way into the second round of this season’s McConnell Shield beating visitors Lurgan 5-2.

“Our coaches Neil and Gary worked really hard to encourage and re-motivate all of us at mid-week training and in our pre-match routines. So we’re delighted to have repaid their efforts with a convincing five-goal display. It was a really good all-round team performance with five different players scoring for us during the game. And we also of course wanted to put on a good show today for our injured centre-back, Jill Stewart, who fractured her knee in last Saturday’s match. That result was for you Jill,” added Trish with a smile.

Carrick will play away to either Knock or Ards in the second round of the McConnell Shield on Saturday 19th November but before that they face Kilkeel at Carrickfergus Amphitheatre this Saturday, November 5 at 2.30pm.
