HOCKEY: Coaching awards launched

Ulster Hockey has launched the inaugural 2015/16 Coaching Awards, sponsored by Total Hockey, to recognise the outstanding contribution of coaches and the role they play in encouraging participation, development and excellence of hockey in the province.

There are three main categories: Children’s Coach of the Year, Young Coach of the Year and Club Performance Coach of the Year.

On the recent launch of the new awards, Coaching and Club Development Officer, Jonathan McMeekin said: “The Coaching Awards are an excellent way of showcasing and paying tribute to the great work that is being done in Ulster Hockey. The coaching workforce do so much for the local game and their dedication and commitment to the players they coach is exceptional; it is only fitting that Ulster Hockey pay special tribute to them.”

Ulster Hockey is also delighted to have the backing from Total Hockey in the launch of the first ever coaching awards.”

The Children’s Coach of the Year will highlight those who have developed the skills of children while focusing on enjoyment and lifestyle through sport.

Young Coach of the Year will look at the important work carried out by coaches to date through his / her coaching achievements and how they have developed the players in their coaching environments.

The final award, Club Performance Coach of the Year will look at coaches who have helped emerging and talented performers reach new potential and peaks in the sport.

Commenting on the inaugural launch of the 2015 / 16 Coaching Awards, Ulster Hockey Executive Manager, Angela Platt said: “The investment coaches provide for hockey through their commitment, hard work and patience is invaluable and I am delighted Ulster Hockey has created a platform to say ‘thank you”.

Nominations for the inaugural Ulster Hockey Coaching Awards can be made through the Ulster Hockey website and through the Ulster Hockey social media platforms.
