HOCKEY: Gamble's goal sends Parkview through

Tammy Gamble's solitary strike was enough to ensure Parkview Ladies advanced to round two of the Intermediate Plate.

PSNI Ladies fought gamely to the end in Ballyclare, but were unable to cancel out the home captain’s first-half winner.

The decisive strike came as early as the 11th minute, when Zoe Montgomery’s run resulted in her finding Natalie Cahoon, who, in turn, set it up for Gamble to rattle home.

The police responded with several penalty corners, but they were unable to get the ball past goalkeeper Maimie Graham.

In the closing stages of the first half Jenna Maxwell-Oliphant and Gamble tested the visiting goalie without success.

In the scoreless second session only a brilliant double save from Graham prevented them from restoring parity.

The Doagh girls had the edge in the final quarter, with Gamble and Toni Smallwood coming close to increasing the lead.

“Coach Becky Linford was pleased with our passing and commitment, and said that we deserved to advance to the next round,” said Kathy Morrison.
