HOCKEY: Mixed fortunes for Larne Ladies

THE weekend was one of mixed fortunes for Larne Ladies’ Hockey Club with the Third XI’s resounding five-goal win over Mossley Thirds on Friday night.

Lynsey Millar scored a hat-trick and Carla Blair, sister of team coach William Blair, netted a further two during the fixture at The Glade.

However, the club’s First XI were not so lucky after severe frost led to a cancellation at North Down, leaving the Second XI plenty of supporters for their home fixture against Lisnagarvey Thirds.

Larne struggled in the early stages and Lisnagarvey notched up a four-goal lead by half-time, while in the second-half the home side were unfortunate to concede a further goal. It took an excellent strike from Kerry McIlwaine to salvage some pride, leaving a final score of 5-1 for the visitors.

Second and Third XI squads: C Morrow, R Beggs, R Henry, L Liddle, F Hamill, A Snoddy, J Wilson, L Millar, C Blair, K McIlwaine, S Evans, R McIlroy, P Crawford, A Beggs, captain T Martin, C McCormick, R McIlwaine, J Poole, T Neill, G Garstin. Coach: W Blair.

Meanwhile, the Under-13s travelled to Mossley for the weekend’s mini league games in cold and foggy conditions. This week the team was missing over half their regulars, giving an opportunity for younger girls Ashleigh and India Bouma along with Ellen McCarlie to step up.

Keeper Jazmyn Murray had her work cut out for her, but as usual made some spectacular saves.
