HOCKEY REVIEW: Precious three points for Mossley at Civil Service

Following a home defeat at the hands of NICS in November, the Glademen were out to prove a point and it was clear from the off that they had their sights firmly set on three points.

Mossley couldn’t have hoped for a better start when Cathcart finished off a swift counter-attack to slot the ball away to take the lead on five minutes.

The visitors doubled their lead on 14 minutes when an aerial ball from midfield found Richard McClintock behind the NICS back line.

He beat the keeper at the edge of the circle and set up Jordan Robinson who made no mistake with a smart finish.

The second half began in a similar fashion to the first with Mossley enjoying the majority of possession, but NICS made the most of a break and secured a penalty corner.

The drag-flicked effort was smartly saved by Owen Doole but in the following melee in front of goal NICS were awarded a penalty stroke. Chris Barnes stepped up for NICS and fired an effort low to Doole’s left but a fantastic save kept the home side off the score sheet.

Mossley remained comfortable but did not make the most of their chances and left NICS with a chance of a comeback when they converted a penalty corner with eight minutes remaining. However, the Mossley side finished strongly to secure three points from a crucial league fixture.

Elsewhere, the 3rd XI won 3-1 on Friday evening at The Glade against Portadown 3rd XI. Mark Lee and Richard Lee (two) got the goals.
