against other group winners, the traditionally strong Ballyclare High School. The girls battled their way through and won the game 1-0.

They then faced Wellington College in the final. Wellington had actually played their semi final the day before so were well rested for the final. However, this did not stop the Wallace girls as a superb strike from the excellent Rachel Houston brought the trophy back to Lisburn after an excellent and hard fought final.

Teacher in charge of the team, Mrs Lisa Millar was very proud of her players and commented: “The girls have worked really hard this year from the first week in September with regular training sessions and matches. it has been great to watch them develop as players and shows them what they are capable of achieving. They can now look forward to next season and the future with real ambition.”

- The Wallace Preparatory Department girls’ team entered the qualifying tournament held at Laurelhill Sports Zone and have successfully qualified for the Northern Ireland Finals to be held at Lisnagarvey HC on Wednesday April 24.

They drew games against Downshire and Harmony Hill and achieved enough points to play in the semi final against Friends Prep.

At the end of that match there was no score, so both teams played a period of five mins golden goal.

Neither team scored so it went to penalty runs with Friends’ winning in the end. Wallace played one final game against Downshire and having scored an outstanding goal to win that game can look forward to the finals at Garvey in a few weeks time.

Preparatory Department Squad: Abbie Hearne (goalkeeper), Alice Salter, Holly Mackin, Eve McMullan, Rose Massey, Bethany Dumican, Emma McGaughey.
