Hockey: Thirds lose out in Minor Cup

Carrick Ladies thirds lost 5-1 to their Queen’s counterparts in the second round of the Minor Cup at the weekend.

Queen’s took the lead in the match midway through the first-half before adding a second shortly before the break.

Carrick hit back with a goal of their own early in the second-half only to see the students respond with a three-goal blitz.

After the match coach Alan Gibb said: ”This was a positive performance by the whole squad, regardless of the scoreline. “Sometimes the score does not show the hard work put in and the girls did work very hard against this very fast, skilful and well-disciplined young Queen’s side.

“The girls gave it 100 per cent and showed drive even towards the end of the game. It would have been nice to stay in the cup but we did not lose the game today, we were just beaten by a better team and this happens.”

The Player of the Match award went to Linley Booth. The thirds’ next game will be next week in the Junior League against Owls on 3rd Dec.
