Hodgen takes West Down TT

LAST Tuesday night was the last of the West Down TTs , ending with a 10 mile TT on the Castlewellan Road for the Maxwell Shield.

The winner on handicap was Chrissy Hodgen, leaving Eddy Cantly in second place. Chrissy’s time of 26.04 was good enough to give him the win, reversing the placing of last week’s Outlook Shield where Eddy won.

It has been an exciting end to the season with only the Hillclimb this week on the tough Tonaghmore Road. Race Secretary Clive ‘Bunty’ Adamson is tipping Jonny Kernaghan to win but says there’s one or two capable of winning and upseting the odds.

Most riders will be in and around the minute mark but it’s a minute of torture, there will only be seconds in it at the finish.

Clive says he would like to thank all who turned out week by week to race, some riders hardly missed a race. Also thanks goes to club marshalls Bertie Wilkinson, John Mercer, Mervyn Maxwell, Vincent McAfee, Billy Maxwell; time keeper Derek Gamble to all who helped in anyway and Davy for the photos.

Would all riders please bring in last year’s trophies to Clive soon as the prize giving is on October 29 in the Belmont Hotel. There will also be a club meeting held in the Leisure Centre within the next week or two so anything that members would like to discuss can be brought up there.

We hope to continue with Tuesday and Thursday as club nights, starting off in the next week or two. Anyone who has thought about joining can come along, the club will be averaging 16 miles an hour for a month or two then increasing it month by month.

Any rider who doesn’t intend starting for a month or two will not be waited on when they do start; it will be up to them to get up to the pace so it’s important that you don’t miss many nights.

Race Secretary Clive says, “We have riders who could do well in open racing next year and we have to get them ready.”
