Horseshoe throwers out in force at Stranocum

WITH summer well and truly here, horseshoe throwing enthusiasts are out in force with competitions being organised throughout North Antrim and Co. Londonderry.

Stranocum played host to a well supported event recently with no fewer than 18 throwers (pictured) from as far away as Limavady meeting in the pleasant surroundings near the River Bush at the village bridge for a competition that stretched well into the afternoon.

A singles and doubles event proved keenly contested affairs with Paddy McCloskey emerging the winner of the singles and getting their names on the doubles title were Billy McConnell and Derek Watton.

Paddy was the tournament favourite from the outset, but local man, Ken McMullan, gave a very good account of himself in the final with both games going to the wire.

The good weather made the day an enjoyable one and participants would like to thank George and Alistair McCrellis for their part in organising the competition.

More competitions will take place in the coming weeks throughout the district including another one in Stranocum organised by the local Ulster Scots group and the Mosside Clodders Club will also be staging an event in the not too distant future.
