Hughes has had something of a roller coaster season, showing bursts of fantastic pace followed by spells of rotten luck which has contributed to his blue roof status in the current period.

The Flying Antrim man open his winning account for the evening with a run away victory ahead of Bradley McKinstry in heat one, new comer Martin Conlon looked as though he could do the business in heat two but Hughes had other ideas blasting through to record his second win.

Star Man Chris Kincaid tried his level best to unsettle Hughes in the Gold Cup showdown but it wasn’t to be with Hughes registering another comfortable victory, Kincaid was the gallant runner up with Dean McCrory in third. Kincaid was the clear winner of the Grand National with Willie Murray in second and McKinstry third.

GROPU TWO LIGHTNING RODS

Ballymena man Daniel Rodgers went through the meeting undefeated in the Group 2 Lightning Rods bagging the coveted King of Nutts Corner title in the process. The recent returnee highlighted his blistering pace with wins in both the qualifying heats which parked him on pole position for the title race.

As the green flag dropped it was clear that Rodgers had everything under control and he went on to take the flag ahead of Nigel Doherty and Jason Clyde.

JUNIOR RODS

Young lady racer Shannon Morrow showed the boys the way round Nutts Corner Raceway on Wednesday night when she collected the silverware in both the heats. Shannon went into the final looking for the perfect hat trick but it wasn’t to be as a flat tyre ruled the Glenarm lass out of contention.

Morrow’s troubles was a welcome sight for Antony Kincaid and it wasn’t long before he stamped his authority on proceedings. Kincaid took the win well clear Joshua McKinstry and former Ninja Kart star Cole McFall.

2L SALOONS

There was another disappointing showing of only four 2L Saloons in attendance which soon become three after the Irish Champion Ryan Wrights night ended with engine problems on 1 lap into the first heat. Newcomer to the formula Robert Mawhinney took the win in heat one before Stuart McCammon from Armagh dominated the remainder of the meeting with wins in the remaining heat and the final.
