Hutchinson and Brady in top five at Greyabbey 10k race

On Friday July 6, 8 Larne AC runners travelled to the shores of Strangford Lough to take part in the Greyabbey 10K and 5K road races. Both courses covered a circuit which started and finished in the Co. Down village with an undulating section greeting the runners on their outward journey before joining the comparatively flat stretch of road on the return to the village; the 10K runners having the pleasure of two laps as opposed to the one-lap 5K.

First to finish for the club in the 5K race in a time of 32:04 was Arlene Thompson. This was an excellent performance considering Arlene has raced little of late and was good enough to secure second place in the F45 category. Just two minutes later, Lyn Kernohan was the second Larne runner to complete the course, finishing in 34:10, securing third place in the F45 category.

In the 10K race, Craig Hutchinson challenged the leading runners from the start and produced a strong finish to secure fourth overall and win the M50 category (35:59).

Bernard Brady tried hard to keep pace with his speedy running buddy but tired in the later miles to finish fifth, but he had the consolation of securing a win the M45 category (36:19).

Billy Thompson crossed the line in 16th (38:43), having put in his usual strong shift over the hilly section of the course.

Kirsty Sharratt was next in and was the first of three club members who recorded PBs on the night. She also claimed the F35 category prize and has a new 10K time to beat of 42:43. Ruth Wilson produced the run of her life over 10K to cross the line in a new PB of 46:09 and one minute later Heather Baxter also achieved a personal best 47:10.

Well done to all who ran and thanks to Rhonda Brady for the support and encouragement she gave to all the runners.
