'I'm not a quitter' - Donaghy

DEREK Donaghy has vowed to stick by under-performing Glebe Rangers ahead of tonight's showdown with high-flying Donegal Celtic in Ballymoney.

Glebe go into the game on the back of two heavy defeats in the past seven days - firstly at home to Ballinamallard in the Irish Cup, followed by a 4-1 thumping by Larne in the WKD Intermediate Cup on Saturday.

Donaghy admits he is feeling the pressure but said walking away from the club is the last thing on his mind.

“I’m not a quitter,” said Donaghy, who has the club’s crest tattooed on his arm.

“There is no-one within the club putting pressure on me.

“But as I said when I came here, if I’m not performing then no-one will put more pressure on the manager than the manager himself.

“When I look at the team at the minute there is more quality than the squad this time last year.

“What we are lacking though is people prepared to get stuck in when it matters.

“A couple of the boys maybe think they are better than they are.

“We have conceded seven goals and scored one in the past week. We are creating chances but we’re not putting them away and at the other end we are leaking goals.

“We need to improve throughout the team. We can play better and defend better.

“It’s time to pull the socks up and battle for Glebe Rangers.

“At the minute I feel it doesn’t matter enough to some of them and that has to change starting with the match against DC.”
