Important pool meeting on Monday evening

AN important meeting for pool in Ballymena will take place next week.

The number of venues submitting teams into the Ballymena Towers Pool League, over the past couple of years has continued to reduce. Some venues are believed to be considering evening closures or early closure during weekdays, as trade during weekday evenings keeps diminishing.

To counteract this growing trend, some members of the league are to submit a motion, at the next meeting of the league, to change the playing night from the traditional Tuesday night to Friday Night. This meeting will be held in Ballymena United Sports & Social Club on Monday 11th October starting at 8.00pm.

It is hoped that some venues who couldn't or wouldn't contemplate a Tuesday Night League may consider a Friday Night playing night.

Club and Pub management and pool players are encouraged to attend this meeting and have their say, as other changes in the playing format will also be discussed.

The main aims of these proposals are to allow the pool league to support the venues in line with the present reactions to the Credit Crunch.

The Ballymena Pool League, initially formed in 1979, started with 12 teams. Additional teams and venues joined year by year to the peak when 44 teams competed in what was known as the 'Ballymena & District Pool League'.

Over the past several years the numbers have diminished to the point where the League only sported 13 teams. Initial meetings this year have indicated a further reduction in these numbers.
