Impressive at Athlone

A SQUAD from the Tigers Under 12s travelled to Athlone, Co Roscommon on Sunday, to take part in a Festival of Rugby alongside clubs from around Ireland.

With a generally fine day the squad had a most enjoyable outing from which they will have gained some useful experience, four games were played, winning two and losing two.

The first match against Clanwilliam from Tipperary, was evenly balanced and could have been won by Tigers but they lost out 2-0

The second match was against Oughterard from Co Galway, Oughterard attacked strongly from the start, but the Tigers defence held firm with a 2-1 win to the Tigers.

The third match against Virginia from Co Cavan, who turned out to be fast and competent, passing the ball about freely, nonetheless Tigers defended mightily and conceded only one try in the first half.

A final score line of 3-0 to Virginia, did not reflect the Tigers contribution to the match.

In the fourth and final match Tigers took on the Midland Warriors from Moate, Co Westmeath, and the final score was 4-1 to Tigers.

A most enjoyable afternoon’s rugby was had by all and indeed made the long journey worthwhile, good rugby was played throughout by the Tigers with the best kept for the last session, the second half of the last game.

Big thanks to all of the parents who travelled in support.
