Ina and Moraig go through

THE Irish Mail 4 Ball Better Ball qualifying competition for Portstewart Ladies was held on September 15 over 18 holes on the Strand Course, stableford format with ¾ handicaps.

Winners were Ina Bratton 17 (13) and Moraig McCrum 24 (18) with 34 points. Runners-up were Rae Cutler 16 (12) and Grace McDowell 16(12) with 30 points. Third were Rosemary Millar 22 (17)and Evelyn O’Neill 28 (21) with 26 points. In fourth place were Maggie Penny 15 (11) and Carolyn Christie 29 (22) with 22 points. The competition now goes to Match Play beginning March 2011.

On Wednesday 22 September 15 teams, each with three members, competed in a very sporting occasion in the team rumble, where one score counted at holes 1 to 6, two best scores counted at hole 7 to 12 and all three scores counted at holes 13 to 18.

Winners were Lady Captain Christine Hutchinson, Mary Travers, and Lady President Kae Mc Carron with a score of 72 over Mary Glover, Brenda Strain and Elaine Cameron. Kay Simpson and Paula O Kane both scored twos.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday 22 September 12 ladies competed for the Riverside Voucher over nine holes. The winner was Liz Ward (29) with 20 points and the runner-up was Eileen Ward (34) with 18 points.

The winners of the 12 monthly medals were eligible to compete in the final. This was played on Monday 27 September and the winner was Maggie Penny (15) with 80 nett and the runner-up was Mary Glover (9) with 82 nett.

Twenty-eight ladies competed over 18 holes, for the Anne Marie Donnelly Memorial Trophy on September 29 on the Strand Course.

Evelyn McFadden (26) won the trophy with 36 points; Jane Duke (12) was best gross with 21 nett; runner up was Lady President Kae McCarron (19) with 35 points. Rae Cutler scored the only two.

Twenty-four ladies competed over nine holes on the Riverside Course with Anne Bryan (28) with 21 points coming out on top, the runner-up was Kate Boyle (30) with 20 points over Charlotte Logue (35) with 20 points.
