INF keep slim hopes alive as Vintage fall to first defeat of the season

Stables 3-5 INF

The INF kept their slim hope of league honours alive with a hard fought last leg victory over the Stables.

Brothers Seamy and Shane pulled each others name out of the hat first with Seamy (134,100) getting the better of Shane (121, 3x100’s ) by 2 legs to 1 on this occasion.

An early lead by Terry Morrow (4x100’s ) was soon whittled down when he missed numerous chances at this double but he was a relieved man when he hit double one for the first leg against Cherie Toland. Big scores of 95,83 and 92 by Cherie with her first three throws in leg two put her out in front but Terry kept in touch with a 140. Cherie can count herself unlucky when sitting on 49 she hit treble 17 with her first dart to let Terry in to take out 44 and claim the INF’s second win of the night.

Vincey Culbert Sr started well checking out 136 with double 8 for an 18 dart leg. But steady scores of 140x2 and 100x4 by Michael helped him get over the finish line for a 2-1 win for Stables.

Match four went down to the wire in the third leg between Peter Morris and Marty Crossan. Both players scored well Peter Morris (140,129,3x100 ) and Marty Crossan (121x2,100 ) but it was Peter who got the win for the Stables.

Paddy Magill won the first leg against Hugh Campbell and big scores of 137 and 120 helped him take the second to put the INF 4-3 up .

The final match Joe Toman comfortably took the first leg only for Lee Culbert to return the favour in the second leg to bring the nights action down to the last leg to be thrown. Back to back scores of 140 and 100 put Lee ahead and a double top finish for a 88 checkout secured the points .

Clann Eireann 2-6 Eire Og

Eire Og kept in contention for second spot with a 6-2 win over Clann Eireann. Hugh Heaney won the first match of the night getting the better of Mark Magee 2-1.

Joe McCabe lost the deciding leg against Micky Campbell who had a 180 to put Eire Og up by two games to nil. Micky Dunwoodie got his fifth win in a row for Eire Og with a 2-0 win over Michael Scullion and when Chris Cinnamond repeated that scoreline over Chris Magee the game was almost up for Clann Eireann.

Another 2-0 followed when Mark McLernon won the first of his two legs in 20 darts to secure the points for the visitors. A 2-1 win for Neil McCluskey over Niall Heaney stopped the whitewash and when Nathan McCabe hit the second 180 of the night against Paddy Campbell on his Eire Og debut to record his seventh win in a row the scoreline was a little more respectful at 5-2. It was left to Paul McGahan to finish the night off with Eire Ogs fourth 2-0 win of the night when he beat Ciaran McMahon.

Vintage 3-5 Celtic

The Celtic became the first team to defeat Vintage this season.

Celtic won the first three games with Dessie Dunbar recording a 2-1 win over Conor Mallon. Mick Millar made it two with a 2-0 win over Mo Campbell and when Gerard Crewe won the third match beating Davy Moore 2-1 it was always going to be an uphill task for the Vintage. John Cinnamond who also has thoughts of finishing the season undefeated kept his hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Dee Breen to make it an incredibly 19 league wins in a row for John, 11 this season. When Dee Blaney got the better of Adrian Hutchinson 2-1 the fightback was on.

A last leg decider win by Andy McConnon over Dee McCready give the Celtic at least a share of the spoils and when Brian McCavigan beat Martin Haddock it was all down to the final match between Sean Farren and Oliver Toland. Sean had an impressive 2-0 win over the Vintage player to give the Celtic men both points.

Trojans 0-8 Drumgor

It was the battle of Drumgor as the Trojans hosted their counterparts but unfortunately for the hosts the defending champions whitewashing them 8-0.

Despite hitting a 121 and 3x100’s Tony Rutherford became Clive Hanna’s 10th victim of the league campaign.

Stephen Duff had a 2-0 win over Davy Vaughan Jr and despite Stuart Matchett hitting a couple of hundreds he couldn’t match Joe Duff’s capability of hitting the doubles as Joe also won 2-0 .

George Chambers saw off Shay Rutherford while Shane Lennon and Rab Lewis shared 8 ton plus scores a but it was Shane who took leg three for a 2-1 win. Eamon Duff (121,100) make it 6-0 after beating Paul Lewis.

Highlight of the night was Pearse Richardson’s 160 check out for an 18 dart leg and a 2-0 win over Davy Vaughan sr and the evening was wrapped up with Gareth Bunting winning his match.
