Ireland honours for local bowls duo

Two Ballymena bowlers are looking forward to further experience in the international arena shortly.

Megan Wilson and Erin Smith will be aiming to impress when they represent Ireland at under-25 level later this month.

The duo are playing in the International Series and the British Isles Pairs, which take place in Wales.

Megan, who is the Lady Vice-President at Ballymena Bowling Club, will captain the side and is delighted to receive the honour.

For Erin, it is the first of two major bowling dates at international level.

As well as the under-25 championships, she has just been selected for World Bowls in New Zealand.

She will travel to the Southern hemisphere from November 28 until December 11.

Erin has already represented Ireland with considerable success.

Last December Erin spent three weeks in Cyprus playing bowls for the Ireland team

During this time the Ireland ladies triples team of which Erin was a player won the gold medal which now qualifies the team for the world championships in Auckland.

Both ladies are members of the Ballymena Bowling Club side which is aiming to retain the Provincial Towns Women’s Bowling Association league title, where they are involved in an intriguing battle with neighbours Ballymoney.
