Ireland rally to finish sixth at Sotogrande

IRELAND finished with a flourish to claim sixth place in the European Nations Championship at Sotogrande.

Portstewart's Paul Cutler and Irish close champion Pat Murray from Limerick both returned scores of 70 in the final round, while Dara Lernihan of Castle carded a 72.

Rathmore's Alan Dunbar with a 74 had the non-counting card.

That left Ireland, twice European team champions in the last three years, with a 72-hole aggregate of 865, 35 strokes adrift of runaway winners England, who retained their title with a wire-to-wire success.
