Last Sunday at Wood green on the A26 dual carriageway, between the Seven Towers roundabout and the roundabout on the M2 Marcus Christie set one the fastest times in the world this year, for the cycling 50 mile time trial, and broke the Irish record by almost six minutes, whilst winning the Ulster championship.

His phenomenal time of 1 hour 40mins and 10 secs represents almost a three-mile winning margin over the previous record of one hour 45 minutes and 42 seconds. His average speed over 50 miles was 30mph.

To put his speed into some perspective, twenty minutes flat would be generally be considered a very respectable time for the 10 mile time trial. Marcus’s performance on Sunday would have been similar to doing five of these in a row without stopping.

Next Sunday he is scheduled to do a 10 mile time trial at Greysteel.
