Irish Cup success is now Juniors’ prime target

Ballymena Juniors travelled to Downpatrick last Tuesday night and they knew that anything less than victory would be required if they were to retain their slim hopes of capturing the NIPGL Junior League Division for an 8th successive time. It did not turn out to be a good night for the Braid men as they could only return home with 1.5 points and in reality any chances of league success have now evaporated.

John McFall, Neal Garrett, Michael Wilson and Roy Torrington made the early running against D McCann but the Downpatrick rink scored 4 shots on the final end to win by 21 shots to 15.

Alan McAuley, Arnold Kenny, Ivan Lynn and John Coulter were in good form against M Smyth and claimed a comfortable victory by 27 shots to 12.

Geoff Padget, Joe McKeown, Jimmy Larkin and David Torrington made a bad start against K McMullan on rink 3 and with 6 ends played they trailed by 14 shots and they made little inroads into the deficit, eventually losing by 25 shots to 10.

Leslie Barr, Tommy Hill, Danny McCullough and George Graham led by eight shots with four ends to go against M Taggart but the home rink scoring two 2’s and 4 singles over the closing ends the game finished level at 21-21.
