Irish Kart GP at Nutts Corner

In the ever competitive Senior Max class it was Jack Lyons from Kiltale who took the victory and claimed the prestigious GP Plate after a great drive in the final. Daniel Conlon put in a fantastic performance to climb from seventh to second, and by the end of the race was planning a pass on Lyons for the lead but it wasn’t to be, and the Dollingstown driver had to settle for second. Derek Wilson from Portadown rounded off the podium coming home in third.

Philip Patton took home the coveted GP Plate in the Cadet class after an altercation on the last lap of the race between Sé Óg Martin and Killian Brady saw both drivers come together. With Martin spinning off and unable to finish and Brady being disqualified from the results at the end of the race, this meant Patton who initially finished in second, was promoted up the standings to take victory, ahead of Cian Caldwell and Nathan Glenn.

In the World Formula class Neville Bell put in a fantastic performance throughout the race to make a break at the front and put a gap between him and the other drivers to take the victory in impressive style, which saw him take home the GP Plate, ahead of Robert Devenney who started near the back of the grid and passed drivers lap after lap to make his way up the order, but was unable to catch Bell whose gap at the front was just too much to close down. Michael Shaw came home in third to secure the final spot on the podium in what was a good race.

It was the usual names at the front in the Mini Max class with Daniel Harper claiming victory after a dominant performance, leading from start to finish, getting the better of the two Jack’s, with Jack McGaughey coming home in second ahead of Jack Steenson in third.

The entertaining KZ2 class provided some very fast paced and entertaining racing, and it was Richie Faulkner who took the victory after another incident during the race which seen Michael Curran, the race leader at the time spinning off into the gravel and submitting the lead to Faulkner who held off Shane Crosbie and Nathan Coss until the flag.

In the 125cc Superkart class it was Matthew McGaffin who got the better of the rest of his rivals, climbing from fifth position to take victory from the Pole Noel Brennan in second, and Conor McCormack coming home in third.

In the final race of the day, the 250cc Superkart class it was Matthew Campbell who made the most of his Pole Position start and took home the victory and the prestigious GP plate ahead of 2013 NI Champion Liam Fox in second, and Colin Menary in third, to round off what was a great days racing.

The next Kart meeting takes place this Saturday at the North West 200 Paddock Circuit, where even more valuable Championship points will be up for grabs in each class, and no doubt the drivers will be doing all they can in their quest for the 2014 title, so get yourselves to the North Coast this weekend for even more fantastic racing.
