Irish U18 rugby star Blair visits old school

Russell Blair who recently represented Ireland at Under 18 Club Level visited his old school last week and presented them with his Rugby Shirt.

Russell first began playing in the Ballymoney High school team in Year 8.

His size was always a great strength to him on the pitch and he had excellent handling skills for someone of his age.

Mr Dunlop (Head of boys PE) could tell at this early age that he had the potential to really make a name for himself in the sport of rugby.

A few words of wisdom to his father regarding Russell’s athleticism and speed were components that Russell needed to work on over the next few years.

That’s exactly what he did and this determined attitude and love for the sport has helped Russell get to the high standard he is at today.

He obviously matured into an integral player in the school team and indeed in Ballymoney RFU.

Russell is now well established in the Irish RFU youth set up.

He has represented Ireland in the Inter Provincial series and travelled to play in Italy.

In order to progress in his development he has recently signed a contract with Ballymena Rugby Club who play in the All Ireland League.

Ballymoney High are very proud of Russell and his achievements and want to take this opportunity in congratulating him on his accomplishments to date, thanking him for the shirt which will take pride of place in the school foyer and wishing him all the best for the future.
