Islandmagee conquer Old Boys

CONQUERORS of Dundela in the last round, Larne Tech Old Boys’ Steel and Sons Cup adventure is over, after this three-goal defeat by neighbours Islandmagee at Dennis Harvey Park.

Tech Coach Jeff Russell conceded afterwards: “Islandmagee deserved to win, no doubt about it. The better team won on the day, though we weren’t helped by some refereeing decisions.”

The Tech, for instance, weren’t happy about a hefty challenge on Darren McKinty which the referee deemed worthy of a yellow card and not red. The Antivilleians also felt hard done by when Paul McCann’s had a goal disallowed for offside.

The Old Boys had another good chance, which Bertie Fulton fired over the bar.

Instead, it was the visitors who went into the driving seat with two early second-half goals from Stuart Hilditch and Michael Moore, before Andy Waide rounded things off with a third just before the close.

Larne Tech OB; Ward – Hyslop, McKinty, Henry (Haggan), Crawford – McCann, Morton, Lynn, McNeill (Kelly) – McLaughlin, Fulton. Subs (unused) Magee, Brown, Smyth.
